Tips for a Great Headshot
- Start by considering what would be appropriate if you were going to a business meeting in your field
- Solid colors are best
- Classic business colors always look great, such as navy, gray, white, black. Other colors can look good too if they are not overly bright.
- Avoid very bright colors
- Avoid busy patterns and large patterns
- Avoid clothing with logos (unless it's your company logo)
- Wear clothes that are well fitting. (ie: a jacket that is too big would look sloppy)
- Keep accessories simple, classic, and to a minimum. (ie: One necklace is OK, but multiple necklaces can look sloppy in a photo. If wearing earrings, smaller earrings are better than very large earrings.)
- (Another note about jewelry: necklaces that have a pendant sometimes come off looking a little crooked because it's hard to keep the pendant perfectly centered when shifting into different poses, so it's best to stay away from a necklace that has a single pendant hanging on it.)
- Make sure clothes are free of wrinkles
- Check to make sure you don't have dandruff and/or lint on your clothes. You should check yourself or ask someone nearby to check you over when it's getting close to your turn. (I will have a tape roller available for people to use if needed.)
- Bring a comb in case your hair needs a little touch-up
- If you will be wearing lipstick or other makeup, bring it with you and check to see if you need a touch-up before starting your session.
- Relax. This will be fun!
